AdBlue & SCR Solutions
AdBlue Problems Can Become Very Expensive
Modern AdBlue/SCR systems are designed to reduce harmful exhaust emissions, but when the system develops a fault, repair costs can quickly escalate.
Common failures include NOx sensors, AdBlue pumps, injectors, heaters, tanks, wiring and SCR-related components. In some cases, replacing multiple components while diagnosing a persistent fault can result in a substantial repair bill.
Worse still, many vehicles introduce an AdBlue countdown when a serious fault is detected. If the problem isn't resolved before the countdown reaches zero, the vehicle may refuse to restart.
GC Tuning provides professional AdBlue and SCR diagnostics and software solutions for cars and vans throughout Hartlepool, Teesside and the North East.
Common AdBlue & SCR Problems
We regularly deal with vehicles displaying problems such as:
✓ AdBlue warning lights
✓ “No start in XXX miles” countdowns
✓ Vehicle already in a non-start condition
✓ AdBlue pump faults
✓ NOx sensor faults
✓ AdBlue injector faults
✓ SCR efficiency faults
✓ AdBlue level or quality faults
✓ Persistent faults following component replacement
If your vehicle is displaying an AdBlue warning, it's worth having the system investigated before the countdown becomes critical.
Avoid Potentially Expensive Repair Bills
AdBlue systems can become expensive to repair, particularly when several components are involved.
A conventional repair may require replacement of components such as the AdBlue tank/pump assembly, NOx sensors or dosing equipment, with diagnostic labour and programming potentially adding further cost.
Where appropriate for the vehicle and its intended use, an ECU software solution can provide an alternative to repeatedly replacing expensive AdBlue/SCR components.
For customers facing a major SCR-system repair, this can represent a significant saving compared with replacing multiple failed components.
We assess each vehicle individually and explain the available options before any work is carried out.
AdBlue Software Solutions
On supported vehicles, the ECU calibration can be modified so that the AdBlue/SCR system is no longer requested by the engine-management software.
This can prevent associated AdBlue faults, warning messages and countdown strategies from continually returning because of the disabled system.
Our software work is carried out using professional ECU programming equipment and an appropriate solution for the vehicle's ECU and software version.
AdBlue Countdown or Vehicle Won't Start?
Don't ignore an active countdown.
Depending on the vehicle, once an AdBlue countdown reaches zero the engine may not restart, potentially leaving the vehicle stranded.
GC Tuning regularly assists customers with urgent AdBlue problems, including vehicles already immobilised by SCR/AdBlue faults.
As a mobile service, in many cases we can attend the vehicle at your home, workplace or another suitable location.
Diagnosis Comes First
An AdBlue warning doesn't automatically mean the entire system has failed.
Where appropriate, we'll identify the faults present and determine the most suitable course of action.
Some problems may have a straightforward repair, while others can involve expensive components or recurring system failures.
Our aim is to give you a clear understanding of the problem and the available options rather than simply replacing parts unnecessarily.
Cars, Vans & Commercial Vehicles
We provide AdBlue/SCR solutions for a wide range of manufacturers and ECU types.
This includes many popular cars, vans, 4x4s and light commercial vehicles from manufacturers such as Peugeot, Citroën, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Vauxhall/Opel, Renault, Land Rover and many others.
Availability depends on the specific vehicle and ECU, so send us your registration number and we'll check what's available.
Stage 1 Tuning Available
If you're already having ECU software work carried out, Stage 1 tuning may also be available for your vehicle.
A Stage 1 calibration can improve BHP, torque, throttle response and drivability, subject to the vehicle being mechanically suitable.
Ask us about the available performance gains for your particular car or van.
Fully Mobile AdBlue Service
GC Tuning provides a mobile service across Hartlepool, Teesside and surrounding areas of the North East.
For many vehicles there's no need to arrange recovery to a workshop — particularly useful when an AdBlue fault has already left the vehicle unable to start.
Important Information
AdBlue/SCR equipment forms part of a vehicle's emissions-control system. Disabling or modifying emissions-control equipment may make a vehicle unlawful for use on public roads and may affect its MOT, type approval, warranty or insurance.
Software modifications to emissions-control systems should therefore only be carried out where lawful and appropriate for the vehicle's intended use.
GC Tuning can also help diagnose the original fault where maintaining the factory emissions system is required.

ECU Remapping & Stage 1 Tuning
Professional Mobile ECU Tuning Across Hartlepool, Teesside & the North East
GC Tuning & Performance provides professional ECU remapping and Stage 1 tuning for cars and vans throughout Hartlepool, Teesside and the wider North East.
ECU remapping is the process of recalibrating the software within your vehicle's Engine Control Unit (ECU). The ECU controls many aspects of how the engine operates, including power delivery, torque, boost pressure, fuelling and throttle response.
Manufacturers often use different software calibrations across similar engines and vehicles. Professional ECU tuning allows the calibration to be optimised for the individual vehicle, providing improvements in performance and drivability without physically modifying the engine.
What Is a Stage 1 Remap?
A Stage 1 remap is designed for a standard or largely standard vehicle and normally requires no additional performance hardware.
The original ECU software is read from the vehicle and a professionally developed calibration is installed, optimising the relevant engine parameters within appropriate operating limits.
Depending on the vehicle, a Stage 1 remap can provide:
✓ Increased BHP
✓ Increased torque
✓ Stronger acceleration
✓ Improved throttle response
✓ Smoother power delivery
✓ Improved overtaking performance
✓ Better towing performance on suitable vehicles
The exact improvement varies considerably between engines, gearboxes and ECU types, which is why we provide expected figures for each individual vehicle rather than advertising one generic percentage increase.
Is ECU Remapping Safe?
When carried out correctly on a mechanically healthy vehicle, a professionally developed Stage 1 calibration is designed to operate within sensible parameters.
At GC Tuning, we're not interested in chasing unrealistic headline figures. The aim is to provide a strong, smooth and reliable calibration appropriate for the vehicle.
The age, mileage, engine, gearbox, condition and intended use of the vehicle all need to be considered.
A remap cannot repair an underlying mechanical problem. If a vehicle has significant faults or isn't suitable for tuning, these should be addressed before performance software is installed.
Will I Notice the Difference?
On many turbocharged petrol and diesel vehicles, the difference can be significant.
It's not simply about achieving a higher peak BHP figure. Increased torque through the usable RPM range can make the vehicle feel much more responsive during normal driving.
Customers commonly notice stronger acceleration, improved mid-range performance, reduced hesitation and less need to change gear when accelerating or climbing hills.
For vans, 4x4s and towing vehicles, additional usable torque can be particularly beneficial.
Can Remapping Improve Fuel Economy?
In some circumstances, improved torque and engine efficiency can allow a vehicle to be driven with less throttle during normal driving.
However, we don't promise fuel savings. Actual fuel consumption depends heavily on driving style, journey type, vehicle condition, load and how the additional performance is used.
If you regularly use the extra power after tuning, fuel consumption may increase rather than decrease.
Petrol & Diesel ECU Tuning
We provide ECU tuning for a wide range of turbocharged petrol and diesel cars and vans.
Modern vehicles use many different ECU types and communication methods. Depending on the vehicle, programming may be carried out through the diagnostic port (OBD), directly at the ECU or using specialist programming methods.
GC Tuning uses professional ECU programming equipment and will determine the appropriate method for your particular vehicle.
Automatic & DSG Gearbox Tuning
On certain vehicles, the transmission control unit can also be calibrated.
DSG/TCU tuning can complement an engine remap by altering parameters such as torque limits, shift behaviour and gearbox response where supported.
We'll advise whether gearbox software is available or beneficial for your particular vehicle.
What Happens During a Remap?
Before tuning, we'll establish the vehicle specification and carry out the appropriate checks.
The ECU software is then read using professional tuning equipment. The calibration is prepared for the specific engine and ECU before being programmed back to the vehicle.
Following programming, the vehicle is checked to ensure everything is operating correctly.
Because different vehicles and ECUs require different programming procedures, the time required can vary.
Vehicle-Specific Tuning
We don't believe that tuning should simply be about installing the most aggressive file possible.
Different vehicles can have different engines, ECU software versions, transmissions and operating requirements even when the model appears identical.
Our approach is therefore based around appropriate vehicle-specific calibration and realistic performance gains.
How Much Power Will My Vehicle Gain?
This depends entirely on the vehicle.
Some engines have considerable tuning potential, while others have much smaller gains available.
That's why we've added our Vehicle Gains facility to the GC Tuning website. Select your vehicle to see the approximate original BHP and torque figures alongside the expected tuned figures.
Performance figures are estimates and individual results can vary according to vehicle specification and condition.
Mobile ECU Remapping
GC Tuning provides a fully mobile tuning service, allowing many vehicles to be remapped at your home, workplace or another suitable location.
We cover Hartlepool, Teesside and surrounding areas across the North East, with wider-area appointments available depending on location.
